Renzel Navarro
Renzel Navarro is an LA based artist specializing in painting and digital media. She is a BFA in Fine Arts with an Animation Minor. Her gallery work deals with personal thoughts, dreamscapes, and the combinations of physical and digital material. Renzel’s work is also influenced by film, animation, and video games. She enjoys creating visual narratives through paintings and animations, believing that her art conveys her ideas better than words can. Continuance expresses the isolation, loss, repetition, and loneliness felt during quarantine. The overall shift of connecting with each other through digital means like Zoom or Discord didn’t feel the same as those seemingly mundane physical interactions I have taken for granted like a handshake or a hug. The physical paintings convey the sense of melancholy of being in your own space whereas the digital projections attempt to fill the void. As an installation, the viewer can still interact with the paintings with their own shadows casted on top. Human connection is something that I thought about deeply throughout the past year.
